Orenburgneft Invests 1.5 Billion Roubles in Green Programmes in 2021

09 March 2022

Orenburgneft (Rosneft’s producing asset) invested 1.5 billion roubles in environmental protection and restoration activities in 2021. Main environmental activities include key projects related to improving pipeline reliability, rational use of associated petroleum gas, efficient management of water and energy resources, land reclamation and biodiversity conservation, as well as continuous monitoring of environmental components.

High performance environmental standards and development of environmental protection technologies are among the key elements of the Rosneft-2030 Strategy. The Company aims to achieve leadership positions in minimising the environmental impact and ensuring the eco-friendliness of its production, planning to become one of the leading international companies in terms of unit greenhouse gas emissions.

Orenburgneft allocated over 770 million roubles to the pipeline reliability improvement programme in 2021. The total length of the operating field pipelines of the company is 5,900 km. The industrial safety diagnostics and examination programme covers up to 36% of operating pipelines.

Internal monitoring allows the enterprise’s specialists to control the condition of atmospheric air, soil, ground and surface water, as well as the overall environmental situation in the operating regions. More than 20 million roubles were invested in environmental monitoring programmes in 2021. The number of analysed samples of natural components (soil, water and atmospheric air) exceeded 4,000 pieces. Since 2021, the monitoring programme has included the greenhouse gas control by drones.

Orenburgneft is implementing a programme on rational use of water resources. High-pressure water pipelines are under construction in the fields of the Volostnovsko-Zemlyansky cluster, which has already reduced the use of fresh water by 200 cubic metres per day. It is planned to reduce the use of fresh water by more than 1,300 cubic metres per day in 2022 by converting injection wells to produced water re-injection.

As part of the energy saving and energy efficiency programme, the enterprise carried out 1,300 actions and saved 52 million kWh of electricity. The economic gain amounted to 176 million roubles.

Orenburgneft is implementing a programme on artificial reproduction of aquatic biological resources. In 2021, about 170 thousand fry of common carp were released into the Sorochinskoye reservoir. Over the four years, more than 370 thousand fry of commercial fish were released into the basins of the Ural and Volga rivers.

For many years, Orenburgneft has been organising environmental education events, including thematic meetings with schoolchildren. This year, employees of the enterprise’s environmental service conducted eco-lessons for elementary school students in the region’s schools. The Clean Coast and Ecoterritory campaigns to clean and improve the region’s park areas and springs were also successfully conducted jointly with representatives of local authorities. Volunteer clean-ups and landscaping and tree planting events were held.
