Rosneft is among the Best Performing Oil and Gas Companies in CDP’s International Climate Rating

13 December 2021

Rosneft is among the oil and gas industry leaders who participated in CDP international climate rating (Carbon Disclosure Project).  After an independent survey Rosneft was given a B score which is one level above the average score of the global climate rating participants. At the same time Rosneft’s performance in the area of corporate governance and implementation of greenhouse gas reduction initiatives received an A  - the highest CDP score.

CDP is the most distinguished non-profit organization that rates environmental performance of companies, their corporate governance and risk management systems as well as how deeply the climate-change items are integrated in their strategies.  CDP climate scores that are given to companies after assessment of the reports that the companies provide  are published by the major informational and analytical agencies along with financial information and are factored in by the investors for evaluation of assets.

The CDP project is supported by 590 institutional investors that manage assets worth of 110 trillion USD. In 2021 over 13 thousand companies participated in CDP ratings (only 38 were from Russia), the total capitalization of these companies is about 64% of the overall capitalization of companies that are traded at global stock exchanges.

Since 2007 Rosneft has been publishing its Sustainability Report by the Global Reporting Initiative standards (GRI). Also, the Company is a member of the UN Global Compact which is the evidence of its commitment to the highest sustainability principles.

In December of 2018 Rosneft became the first among the Russian companies that publicly confirmed the commitment to the 17 UN Sustainability Goals and integrated them in its corporate strategy. Following the global practices, the Company has determined five goals of strategic priority, which are directly supported by its core operations: Good Health and Well-Being; Affordable and Clean Energy; Decent Work and Economic Growth; Climate Action; and Partnerships for the Goals. However, given its pivotal role in the energy sector and the scale of its activities, the Company also contributes to the achievement of the remaining 12 goals of the UN.

Note for Editors:

CDP (the Carbon Disclosure Project) is a non-profit organization whose goal is to study the impact of the climate change on the global leading public companies. Annually, CDP collects information on greenhouse gas emissions using its questionnaires. The questionnaire-based CDP score is a performance indicator for the corporate governance and transparency in climate change-related issues.

Rosneft continues to improve its position in the international ESG ratings. Rosneft has been recognized as a leader of Bloomberg’s ESG rating among the oil and gas industry majors (ESG informational transparency was rated).

In 2021, FTSE Russell – a subsidiary of London Stock Exchange - again put Rosneft on the list of participants of the international exchange indexes FTSE4Good Index Series which is updated twice a year. The Company’s performance is better than 90% of the international oil and gas industry practitioners  (ICB supersector) with a score of 3.9 while the top score is 5.

Rosneft has become the only Russian oil and gas corporation that received the status of a sustainability leader and which is part of the Global Compact LEAD initiative for its lasting commitment to the UN Global Compact and the Ten Principles of Responsible Business.
